About Scouting

There are 5 levels to Cub Scouting:

  • Tiger (after completing Kindergarten)
  • Wolf (after completing 1st grade)
  • Bear (after completing 2nd grade)
  • Webelos 1 (after completing 3rd grade)
  • Webelos 2 (after completing 4th grade)

Boys in each level are placed into dens which consist of 6-10 boys and 1 or 2 Den Leaders. All of the Cub Scouts in a den are about the same age and live in the same neighborhood.  The boys in the den go on tours, learn new skills and have fun playing games. Dens typically meet every other week (except the week of pack meetings or when school is closed).

Boys graduate from the 2nd year Webelos to join Boy Scouts in a troop and begin another
journey of activities designed for older boys.

In Cub Scouts all the levels join together to be included in a larger "pack". The Pack holds events as well as our monthly "Pack Night" where the boys get together at Accompsett Elementary School.

Cub Scouting means "doing." You have lots to do as a Cub Scout—crafts, games, sports, songs, stories, and puzzles, to name a few things. Much of the fun happens right in the den and pack. The den usually meets every week, and the pack meets once a month all year long. At den meetings and pack meetings, Cub Scouts do different things for fun and learning.

Cub Scouts also go to events like the annual blue and gold banquet, field contests, and derbies such as the pinewood derby. They go on field trips. They go camping and have other kinds of outdoor adventures. They take part in community events. Cub Scouts do all sorts of exciting stuff! Whatever it is that you enjoy, you'll have a chance to do it in Cub Scouting.

There is a reason for everything boys do in Cub Scouting. Apart from the fun and excitement, the aim of Cub Scouting is to help boys grow into good citizens who are strong in character and personally fit. This is why we say that Cub Scouting is fun with a purpose.

Colors

The Cub Scouting colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning, which will help boys see beyond the fun of Cub Scouting to its ultimate goals.

  • The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above.
  • The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.
